  • β€’Pencil
  • β€’Crayons
  • β€’Optional: nature field guide or internet access for research

Directions

  1. 1.Review the vocabulary: producer, consumer, decomposer, predator, prey.
  2. 2.Build a food chain using the organism cards: start with a producer.
  3. 3.Extend the food chain into a food web by adding multiple connections.
  4. 4.Answer the analysis questions: "What happens if one organism is removed?"
  5. 5.Research a local ecosystem and create an original food web.

Parent Teaching Tip

The most powerful ecosystem lesson is the "remove one organism" thought experiment. Ask: "What would happen if all the bees disappeared?" This question reveals the concept of interdependence more effectively than any definition.
